Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Age 10-16

If your child is between the ages of 10 and 16, they will be in our Youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program. This is a very exciting class! Now that the children are developmentally ready to be independent for an hour, we really pack a lot of action into those 60 minutes!

Each classes have 5 parts:

1. Warm Up and Movement Students use body weight to build strength, coordination, and endurance. Students run, roll, handstand, cartwheel, forward roll, backward roll, and dive roll. The arsenal of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu-related movements are a great way to get warmed up.

2. Self defense skills or takedowns. After students get their adrenaline pumping, it is time to practice a competition take down technique such as a double leg, single leg, osoto-gari, or o-goshi hip throw. students will also drill self-defense techniques such choke escapes, headlock escapes, punch defense, and many more.

3. Technique series of the day. Now it is time for us to get into the heart of the class. Students will learn two or three techniques in a row that will incorporate some part of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu strategy.

4. Spar (rolling) This is always the favorite. Kids and teens LOVE to spar! Although students do not throw any punches or kicks, they learn how to apply techniques on someone who is resisting. In other words, we want our techniques to work, so we are able to try them out against an opponent in a safe manner.

Kids are encouraged to try to spar kids that are much bigger than them and much smaller than them that way they get experience rolling with a variety of body types.

5. Game. Yes, even kids this age love games
