Instructors
Stephan Goyne
Stephan Goyne is the head instructor of the kids and teens program. He began his training of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Santa Cruz in 1998 and has been competing and coaching ever since. He has also coached gymnastics at Kids in Motion on Piedmont Ave and Head over Heels in Emeryville and tumbling to Aptos High cheerleaders. Additionally, he holds a California Clear Teaching Credential and taught in Oakland elementary and middle schools from 2000-2006.
His vision is to teach martial arts to kids in a very non-traditional way. He combines the training styles of sports such as gymnastics and soccer with the martial arts of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
He has the unique ability to teach Jiu-Jitsu to all age levels. The programs he developed at Rocha Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy reflect his experience teaching toddlers gymnastics, or 4th graders how to read, or high school teenagers how to tumble. He utilizes his training as an academic teacher to construct lesson plans that differentiate the Jiu-Jitsu instruction to allow for differences in ablity, size, or age.
